Pro Tools - Bounced Drafts + Final Piece
Paranoid Drafts
Paranoid Final Sound Pieces
Evaluation
I took inspiration from The Beatles - Revolution 9 with their abstract piece utilising panning, high pitched and low frequency sounds to create an eerie atmospheric sound. One element of their sound was the reversing of a voice clip. I managed to incorporate many of the same elements into my own sound piece whilst still having literal sounds. By reversing a glass rattling on the floor clip I managed to create my favourite sound in the piece, it is very jarring and really worked with where I placed the clip. In reflection I wish that I had recorded more of the glass sounds to be able to have more to play with which could have ended up changing my pieces outcome entirely. I also took inspiration from Matmos - Spondee which used a more literal and conventional approach to sound design which I also found interesting. I used my sounds literally with the voice over to add humour and create the realistic atmospheres as much as I could whilst utilising my new found knowledge of the softwares AudioSuite. To create the realism of the universe I was creating was a challenge at first however after experimenting with different effects in AudioSuite I would say that I am very happy with my outcome. The overall piece itself with the voice over works very well in my opinion as the diegetic sounds and the voice over are satisfyingly accurate. I believe my panning could have been more thought out with the timings of them and which side I wanted certain sounds to travel in. One piece of panning I added was a very fast and bouncey left to right pan with my glass sound which I think is quite disorientating with the sound I chose to accompany it with. The ending of my piece I believe was a little chaotic which is what I intended as I wanted there to be a big build up of sounds then the pop of the balloon which the silence follows. However, I think it may have been unclear whilst listening to this as the intention might have been lost. I could have improved this by continuing specific sounds throughout and them either increasing in volume or becoming more obscure to build the sound for then ending. Overall, I am very happy with the outcome of my sound especially as I struggled so much at the start to choose a suitable piece of text which I liked. Writing my own text helped a lot because I had full control over what I wanted to include and how playful I could be when it came to editing.
