A Sudden Gust of Wind - Sound Development
1
This is link 1 and my first attempt, I started by trying to create an ambient beginning to the piece with the chime but I ended up not using it as I felt it didn't flow well enough with the piece. I also found that the "wind" sounds I had originally recorded sounded too much like waves in the ocean and decided to record new wind sounds so they would sound more like wind blowing rather than the ocean.

This is link 2 my second attempt, I tried to create a sound piece souly using the paper sounds I had recorded and loop them and repeat some of the clips but decided that this isn't the direction I wanted for my piece.

I started to create my sound piece by creating a base which then I would fine tune and fine tune until I was happy with the sound. I started by using a variation of the "wind" sounds I had recorded, I found the rubbing on the carpet created a much more "gust of wind" sound rather than the blowing into the microphone which created a more calm wind sound.
I started with placing the clips in no particular order or with any dynamic sound to them just the sound itself with no effects. I decided that the raw sound of the carpet being rubbed and the blowing into the microphone created the sound I wanted without any effects on the sounds, I added a slight reverb onto one or two of the more "frantic" carpet swishes as it sounded too dry.
Creating the base of the piece was simple, I then needed to make the piece sound more dynamic so I started to move the clips so that there was a build, then the really windy bit then the wind calming down. Once I had created this rise and fall with my wind noises I started adding in my paper sounds which was a lot more difficult as I was trying to create a build of noise with them to in the same pattern as the wind which didn't really work as the sounds get lost within each other.
This is link 3 my third attempt, I added some of the paper sounds that I liked from the previous experiment however I still found them to be very dry sounding which I didn't like. I also found that the paper sounds didn't reflect the "sudden gust of wind" theme as the paper fluttering was going on for too long without enough variation.

This is link 4 my fourth attempt; to amend my paper sounds I began to create a more "sudden" gust of wind so that I could have my paper sounds being dispersed at the time of the peak with the occasional paper flutter at the beginning which I think worked better. I also added some more sound clips in such as the humming of the fidget spinner as the sound creates a nice frequencies to sit under the wind sounds. I also took the same fidget spinner clip and used a lot of effects to make it sound like light rain, I used a pitch effect and made it more high pitched and took out the lower frequencies using EQ effects.

I feel as though I have create an interesting base to my piece and will use it to create my Muffled Woman piece as this will allow a much more varied and dynamic sound.
