Maps & Networks - Ideas Development - Projection Mapping
So I kind of went about this idea in a weird way, I decided to follow my instinct and look into projection mapping without really considering the concept of the idea.
Mind Map
A celebration of technology, everyone is so against the idea of technology when it benefits us as a society in many different ways.
Aesthetic for my Animation
I have been looking into Cyberpunk photography, I find the style of it very unique and enforces this cyber aesthetic I am looking for for my visual animation.
Liam Wong
One photographer that I have been following on Instagram creates cyber looking cityscapes. The aesthetic is achieved through the colours and the time of day the image is shot at. By shooting at night time allows for a low light scene which also means that the synthetic lights of the city create unique tones and shadows. The colour is important to the imagery as it enforces this style of cyber. Usually you'll find find deep pinks and purples with greens and blues to create this style.
I would like to take the aesthetic style and apply this to my animation as I believe it will help enforce this idea of celebrating technology and create a visually beautiful animation.

I have my concept, I like the vagueness of it because it allows me to be able to be creative with it in the animation process. I will create a storyboard of what my animation will include.
My experiments
I thought about using cardboard 1, because I have an abundance of the stuff 2, its easy to build a sturdy structure with and 3, its easy to paint onto. Just to started I created buildings of different sizes and taped them together.
I liked this street either side however with the projection it wouldn't really work as it would block the projection stream.
I decided to paint it blue to see if the colour would pick up with the projection.
PROJECTION EXPERIMENTS
I used MapMap which allows you to add in the shapes you need and scale them. I struggled at first to figure the software out but its pretty basic.
This is my setup, my tripod is not working which is typical so I will have to take on from stores.
The blue showed some of the colour however I have read that white is best for showing the colours to its truest form. I will experiment with white and grey.
Hey I am really into the cyberpunk/ retrofuture style and i follow https://www.instagram.com/vaporwave_1980/ on Insta, they have some really cool gifs/ videos as well as photos. thought it might help you.
