The Green Line - Francis Alys
The Green Line, 2004
An idea originating from an earlier piece of work called The Leak, 1995 Francis Alys develop an idea which raises the question about poetic acts in the world we live in. The piece depicts a man walking the armistice border which separates Israel and Jordan, commonly known as the green line. Humorously, whilst the man is walking the border he is constantly refilling a paint can with green paint to visually represent the border between the two conflicting countries. Though realistically there is no physical border to be seen the idea of using the green paint to show a physical border raised a lot of attention by the spectators around him.

By mapping out the route on a physical map this allowed Alys to be able to follow the border to be able to create the green line. In a similar way, I would like to physically map out the route my model will walk and show the route via a digital map which will have an icon representing the location of the model revealing the full route at the end of the video. Though Alys created a physical representation of his journey and the border, I will create a digital version of my route as I feel as though the idea of GPS tracking links better to a more digital style.
