Strengths and Weakness

Act - 1 

strengths relating to the research: Taking inspiration from Vertov's work, we used our camera to reveal the truths that only we can see. We intended to do this through masks, having a black, white and red colour scheme, linking to Barbara Kruger. Moreover Vertov intended to have the camera as part of his art. We used this idea to link to Brecht as we did not want out audience to willingly suspend their disbelief.

Weaknesses relating to the research: However, due to technical difficulties we only managed a few basic mask so we couldn't link this as well as we would have liked to Barbara Kruger. 

Strengths visually: Looking at the visual language of act,1 the composition of some of the frames are interesting and really highlight the importance of the command in the frame by using negative and positive space more effectively. The masks of colour which were in the shot were effective. 

Weaknesses: It would have been more preferable to have had the masked colour of red to highlight the sign/commands more. The footage quality itself is grainy which could have looked more appealing if it wasn't. 

Act  - 2

strengths relating to the research: The use of colour links well with the advertising colour schemes research, with strong links to Pheobe McClean with the advertising audio. We glitched the footage to show the failure of the Farnham society. 

Weaknesses related to research: Visually it could have had more ties with the research however you might argue that we made this up with the audio. 

Strengths visuals: The brightness of the visuals are very bold and uncomfortable looking which was the intention. 

weaknesses weakness: There could have been more varied footage with more interesting compositions which could have emphasised the "commute" more effectively. 

Act - 3 

Strengths relating to the research: Showing the viewer us watching the film has strong links to brecht as we wanted the viewer to know they were watching a movie. Also our whole video fits into the postmodernism genre as it is essentially a film about itself which is apperenent as the 3rd act is revealed. 

Weaknesses relating to research: 

Strengths visuals: In Act 3 we made the pedestrian lights link to the soundscape of the pedestrian light. This should help the viewer understand the use of the sound. Since it is also the end of the documentary the viewer should understand that these are controlling things that they obey.

weaknesses weakness: The shot of us watching the video, the video itself is slightly overexposed which couldn't really have been helped without losing ourselves watching it.
