Maps & Networks - On going research - Javier Riera & Rune Guneriussen
On a phone call to Brodie about memories and how certain things are placed in your mind in a different setting such as her example of "a mug in a field" this made me think of an artist I found whilst studying photography at college, yet, I couldn't remember their name. I started searching related words and found Javier Riera which projects patterns and geometry into landscapes. What a lucky and relatable find.
Javier Riera
"My work is based on light projections with geometric shape made directly on the vegetation and the landscape. I move to natural spaces, previously chosen, with the material and the necessary means to carry out lighting interventions that, by their very nature, are ephemeral. I use photography as a means of recording and disseminating what happened."
What I really find interesting about the placement of where the light falls with the projections is that certain parts are cut off. The form the light takes when it hits the foliage is very textured which really stands out to me, I think highlighting the foliage with the light brings something back which is lost with the darkness.
I really want to experiment with this idea of taking a projector out into the world and experimenting with something simple such as projecting a shape.
Rune Guneriussen
Luckily I found the artist for Brodie. I forgot how much I really enjoy these photographs. I think what I like the most is the way they become a part of the surrounding, the placement of the objects is what sells it. The unique form of the lamps enforces the shape of mushrooms, the colour ties this in even more as most people when thinking of mushrooms tend to think of red and white. The colours are contrasting which creates dynamic.
