Student 'addiction' to technology 'similar to drug cravings', study finds - The telegraph

The idea of "alternate realities" and altered perceptions of things is very fascinating to me. I was looking into people my own age and how we react to technology for some inspiration for my video and come across this interesting article about students sharing the same withdrawal symptoms as drug addicts when their technology is no longer in use or present. This idea of technology becoming a drug in its own way is an interesting concept I would like to look into further. The idea of an alternate reality and technological drugs enhancing this state of mind could be incredibly interesting.

From thinking about this idea it would be very suitable for this project to create a video showing an alternate reality based on a drug technology which alters perception without having to take life changing or life threatening drugs in the process of achieving the "highs" which drugs induce. The concept is simple, one side would be normal raw footage and the other side a reality induced by a technological drug, maybe an app and a microchip. I know that this sort of biotechnology exists and would be an interesting way to show the effects of drugs. I would like to create a couple of effects which are common and familiar to a psychedelic trip such as things looking bigger than they usually do, objects wiggling about for no reason, colours changing and even intense visuals such as holographic animal faces warping at the speed of light. Most of these effects can be somewhat created using after effects and would be a great way to learn some of the distortion tools and basic after effect skills.
