Sophie Calle - Portrait Series

Suite Vénitienne

Sophie Calle’s morally questionable series of images document her shadowing a mans move to Venice. Simply with the first image you are shown filmic characteristic of the streets of Venice with multiple people in the frame. The viewer is shown the innocence of the photographer capturing a moment. By creating this series we are shown the true stalker-like intentions of the photographer as we are shown more images of a man on his own and the photographer standing behind objects to not be seen emphasizing the dark nature of the images.

I find this work to be intrusive which is interesting, I find it very interesting that she didn't include the mans face within the images as he is sort of unidentifiable all we can see is the mans physic and clothing. I would like to explore this further within the theme of identity and loss of identity.
